Check out the newest sci-fi book releases coming out this week through next Friday, available on Amazon soon! I decided to start buying one book from each week’s post. This week, I decided on Geoffrey Simpson’s The Slummer. Back in my ‘slimmer’ days, I loved to run and miss it. Running was therapeutic, as I found my Zen while listening to my breathing and enjoying my surroundings (even in the city). I haven’t read a running-themed sci-fi book (ever) and Simpson’s book piques my interest. Unfortunately, I have to wait a few days to read it, since its release date is Feb. 7th. I hope you decide to buy at least one book from these weekly lists. If you do, let me know which book you choose in the comments, and don’t forget to leave a review on Amazon and Goodreads!

Dire Redemption by Ishmael O. Ross
The year is 2058. The world’s powers have stabilised, the citizens of the newly formed super-states are living in peace. But prosperity is a privilege of the fortunate and equality has long become a radical idea. For those born on the wrong side of the wall surrounding the United States of Europe, all that remains a distant and unattainable dream. When Jonas, a Congolese refugee, boards the cargo ship headed for the Mediterranean, he is full of hope to find safety and an end to his suffering. But upon arriving at the wall surrounding the United States of Europe, Jonas’s dream suddenly turns into a living nightmare. Dire Redemption is a protest against the rise of racism and xenophobia, the political and economical exploitation of ignorance fuelled by fear, and the glorification of war through misguided patriotism—wrapped into an action-packed, constantly accelerating chase. From the rise of extreme right-wing populism, through the ineptitude of an often only nominal opposition that is not willing to take action or even responsibility, to the oft-unspoken racism found in all aspects of everyday life, the story’s world and characters represent the emergent issues of our present time and reality.

Peace between the two worlds, let alone the two siblings, is a fragile thing. Keova can’t afford another war, and can’t afford to be without the keys that Ambrose stole – and for his role in the matter, Esau had his position as firstborn and heir stripped and given to Compass. Both feel they are in the right. Which sibling walks the Honored Path?
The Modified Blueprint (Unexpected Islander Book 2) by Kellyn Thompson

With only days to prepare, he is sent back into the field to work undercover in one of the ominous Purebred Communities. Once inside, he quickly learns that the official reports were misleading and that the Community is far more dangerous than he had been led to believe. Fortunately, his extensive training and experience have already prepared him for the unexpected. He is prepared for the unknown and prepared to find the Cipher. For years, a national track championship has inspired Ben to ferociously cultivate his own talent as a runner. As Ben logs miles through the potholed, darkened streets of his community, an idea takes hold of him that could turn his highly stratified society upside down.
